Job Description:

W. W. Norton, the largest and oldest publishing house owned wholly by its employees, is seeking an intern in its College Biology department to assist the biology team from January to April. This internship will give you the opportunity to work on college biology textbooks, as well as the digital ancillaries that accompany them, such as Smartwork, Coursepacks and Test Banks, Lecture PowerPoints, and ebooks. You will gain experience in a number of editorial projects including, but not limited to, preparing manuscript for copyediting and production, cataloging and organizing print and digital assets, testing digital content and functionality, and researching market data. The internship will also offer insight into the marketing and sales aspects of textbook publishing.

Experience and Skills:

Ideal candidates will have an interest in learning more about college textbook and digital media publishing. Applicants should possess strong communication and research skills and be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask and work independently in an office environment. Knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft Office is required. A background or interest in biology is preferred but not required. Specific hours are flexible, but interns must be available to work 3-4 days for a total of 20 hours per week over a three-month period.

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter as email attachments to Gina Forsythe (gforsythe@wwnorton.com). If you are interested in applying to any other Norton internship positions for the fall season, please name up to 3 of these in your cover letter. To be considered for an internship, you must follow these directions and apply directly to the hiring manager.
