Job Description:

W.W. Norton is seeking a science discipline specialist to work in the Southern United States in its college department. In any given year a science sales specialist might focus his or her efforts in disciplines as diverse as geology, biology, psychology, astronomy, and chemistry. This position will cover the Southern U.S. territory.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

The primary duty of the science discipline specialist will be to assist Norton’s college sales reps in winning important science adoptions through making individual calls, conducting formal faculty presentations, as well as assisting in creative follow-up strategies to close business. Additional responsibilities will also include:

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of Norton products and how they relate or compare to competitors products.
  • Conduct online web-ex demonstrations.
  • Facilitate software implementations.
  • Attend Annual Sales and Summit meetings as well as other meetings throughout the year that pertain to the sciences.

 

Specialists also collaborate with science editors and marketing managers in the following duties:

  • Develop and maintain a priority adoption list.
  • Track rep priorities within a defined sales region.?
  • Attend academic conferences.
  • Facilitate software implementations.
  • Conduct online demonstrations.
  • Create sales support materials.?
  • Participate in product focus groups.?
  • Collaborate to plan sales conference presentations.
  • Perform market research.

 

Experience and Skills:

 

  • Residence in Southern U.S. - precise location negotiable.
  • Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Sales experience in higher education publishing (or similar) for a minimum of three years.
  • Demonstrate sales performance in the physical and life sciences.
  • Demonstrate success in winning large committee adoptions.
  • General proficiency with educational technology.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate examples of proactive initiatives in previous positions that led to higher performance.
  • Able and willing to sustain 40% overnight travel during the academic year (with low travel during the December/January and the summer breaks).
