Job Description:

W.W. Norton is looking for a Front-End developer who is proficient with React/Redux to work within a full stack development team to build our next generation customer facing eCommerce, Digital Products and Publishing Platform. Your primary focus will be on building reusable user interface components. You will ensure that these components and the overall application are robust and easy to maintain. A commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and a quality product is important.


Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Developing responsive reusable components, front-end libraries/packages, web-based applications using ReactJS, Redux, NodeJS, D3 and other JavaScript based frameworks and libraries
  • Translating designs and wireframes into high quality code and deliverables that is performant, secure, maintainable, clear and concise, and WCAG 2.0 compliant.
  • Optimizing components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers
  • Supporting rollouts, analyzing technical issues and being available for on-call duties on emergencies
  • Identifying and escalating potential concerns related to project initiatives and recommending viable solutions



Experience and Skills:

  • 4+ years of professional front-end responsive and mobile optimized development experience with the most updated versions of front-end technologies
  • Strong domain knowledge on web fundamentals like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Strong understanding of web architecture concepts (HTTP request/response, session, cache, cookies)
  • Strong React/Redux experience
  • Build tools like Gulp, Bower or Grunt
  • CSS preprocessors (Sass, LESS)
  • Experience with unit testing framework
  • Experience with Agile/SCRUM methodologies
  • Experience with common front-end development tools such Webpack, NPM, Git etc.
  • Experience in integrating web services using REST and JSON
  • Unix / Linux experience
  • Possess superior analytical, problem-solving abilities. Can rapidly absorb complex technical and conceptual information, identifying key issues and details
  • Ability to take initiative to research and learn emerging technologies
  • High awareness of trends which are specific to e-commerce, usability, accessibility and SEO
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must be able to work regular business hours in our NYC location
  • Eligibility to work in the US with W.W. Norton & Company in required
