Job Description:

W.W. Norton & Company is seeking a Sales Representative to join its High School Sales team. The person in this role will have the opportunity to begin a rewarding career in academic publishing, and be joining a collegial community of lively, humane people who share a common goal of publishing and promoting distinctive educational materials. This position reports directly to the Director of High School Sales. Please note, this position is remote and the location is flexible throughout the Northeastern United States. 

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

High School Sales representatives at W. W. Norton communicate with high school honors and Advanced Placement teachers, departmental chairs, district & state coordinators to promote textbooks and electronic course materials. In this position, representatives are intellectually engaged in a wide range of disciplines—from English and history to psychology and economics. Because representatives will email and speak to teachers in a variety of disciplines almost every day, there’s a great deal of variety. While reps will communicate from a home office on many days, on other days they are working a booth at a conference or making a presentation at an AP workshop or district bid. Publishing reps at W. W. Norton are constantly learning something new and regularly challenged to put that knowledge to the test.

Since an essential aspect of this position is devising distinctive strategies for securing business within a variety of disciplines and contexts, representatives become proficient problem solvers. Being a W. W. Norton representative will sharpen analytical skills and strengthen the ability to prioritize.

Experience and Skills:

  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, skilled at time management, independent, comfortable working at a home office, and persuasive.
  • Adept at research of school, state and College Board web sites to create strategic operational plans.
  • Able to utilize tools to create data sets and use company systems efficiently and creatively.
  • Must relish the opportunity to become deeply engaged in conversations about education and teaching objectives, and then use these conversations as way to promote how Norton texts and media help to address and solve those issues in a consultative manner.
  • Candidates should have a wide range of interests and be able to engage in thoughtful.
  • Conversations about any number of topics in the liberal arts and sciences.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • The ability to travel overnight is essential.
