Job Description:

W. W. Norton & Company is seeking a brand designer to join its college department. Designers enlist their talent and craft to bring Norton's unique positioning to life anywhere a customer meets us: in marketing channels, web, video, email, social, print, and beyond. An excellent candidate champions collaboration, strategic, forward thinking and communication. The person in this position will be an advocate for groundbreaking creative and design. Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate complex topics strategically, intuitively, and creatively across marketing and advertising initiatives
  • Interact with, present to, and explain creative concepts and designs to internal partners of all levels
  • See projects through the entire campaign and design process; from creative concept to production, resulting in finished creative assets and final production files
  • Partner with key stakeholders cross functionally, as well as within our marketing, advertising, and editorial teams to align around creative solutions that consistently innovate and exceed business objectives
  • Work collaboratively with project coordinators to ensure proposed solutions can be executed within the time and budget
  • Contribute to the evolution of our brand by exploring unique ideas, production processes, approaches, methods, and solutions
  • Ensure thoughtful visual consistency and quality across multiple areas of work by sharing progress, providing thoughtful critique, and working collaboratively
  • Resolve ambiguity to execute high-quality creative work in a fast-paced environment

Experience and Skills:

  • Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required
  • Must be able to work full business hours from Norton’s New York City Headquarters. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are temporarily providing employees the option to work remotely.
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite with a focus on InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • The ability to self-manage and exercise stellar time-management skills
  • A passion for utilizing collaborative methods as a part of the creative process to encourage idea generation and shared decision making
  • Proficient in print production requirements and processes
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap
  • Experience in core design fundamentals including typography, composition, color theory, and brand guidelines with excellent attention to detail and consistency
  • Knowledge of JavaScript or willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in standard methodologies for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design; practical knowledge of User Centered Design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in related marketing and advertising fields at agencies, studios or in-house
  • A portfolio that demonstrates critical thinking applied across a range of creative deliverables
  • Experience crafting compelling visuals across various brand touchpoints: including print and digital experiences, social content, and more that elevate and evolves brand aesthetics
  • Experience providing creative partnership to photographers, directors, illustration and motion graphics production vendors pre-post production
  • A current knowledge of popular culture and trends, as well as creative work produced within the advertising industry
