Job Description:
W. W. Norton & Company is seeking a Technical Program Manager to
join its fully remote Digital Products group. Independent since 1923,
employee-owned, and proud to publish "books that live,"
Norton is dedicated to building inclusive learning experiences for
higher education and high school. The Technical Program Manager will
build and scale programs to help us move more fully into digital
learning and to strengthen the impact of our engineering team across
the organization. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating
ambiguous problems and situations, enjoys working with stakeholders
and building systems, and has experience across the entire execution
path of digital products. This position will report to the Director of Engineering.
Essential Job Responsibilities
As Norton’s first Technical Program Manager, you will have the
opportunity to help define the role, influence technical strategy, and
be a central figure in our transition to digital-first publishing. To
do this, you will:
- Streamline how we work with third party developers to build
interactive content for our ebooks and learning tools.
- Build close partnerships across the entire organization, with
special focus on Product Management, Engineering (Dev & Ops),
and Digital Media Editorial.
- Identify opportunities to turn disparate projects into a connected
program, work with stakeholders to define the program, and drive its success.
- Work closely with the Business Analyst in Accessibility &
Standards to develop processes and standards to ensure the success
of complex programs. These may include but are not limited to
milestone and release planning, creation of goals and schedules,
definition of roles and requirements, or defining the technology
stack for the program.
- Ensure visibility of program status for stakeholders and all
interested parties ("open by default").
- Define structures, processes, and methodologies for successful
program management.
- Build and maintain tools designed to help automate and scale
programs in collaboration with other engineers. Examples may include
project templates, task automation, or infrastructure as code.

activities required of the employee.
