Job Description:

W. W. Norton is seeking a Trade Sales Operations Coordinator to join our Trade sales team. The Trade Sales Operations Coordinator will be responsible for producing in-house sales reporting and translating insights into actionable recommendations for our sales, marketing, publicity, and editorial teams as well as distribution clients. The Trade Sales Operations Coordinator will become an expert in both Norton’s internal systems and industry-wide POS (cash-register sales as reported by retailers) systems and support Norton employees and distribution client employees in using the systems effectively. They will report to the Trade Sales Operations Manager, collaborating on forecasts, print runs and backlist reprint quantities; they will also assist and support sales reps in deepening their understanding of their channels and driving sales efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for a curious person looking to flex their analytical muscles and learn about the book publishing business.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage reporting of existing distribution clients’ sales and inventory; conduct periodic business reviews and ad hoc reporting requests for them
  • Produce analytics on Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor, Ingram, independent store, mass merch and special market sales
  • Generate reporting to analyze potential distribution clients
  • Work with the Inventory Manager to forecast print runs and build and maintain a sales estimate system for print and bind meetings with the production team
  • Contribute to projects and tasks including data cleanup, process improvements, system upgrades and testing
  • Respond to research requests from internal stakeholders and identify answerable business questions in those requests
  • Extract and analyze data from multiple sources (including marketplace data, internal sales, DMAs, search, etc.), and synthesize outputs into a cohesive narrative
  • Train users on how to use Norton reporting systems; create and maintain easy-to-follow documentation

Experience and Skills:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Must be able to work from Norton’s New York City headquarters.
  • 1 to 2 years relevant work experience in business insights or book publishing sales (any role), sales reporting, or sales analysis
  • Strong Excel skills (including v-lookups, pivot tables, text to column, etc.)
  • Strong written communication, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees across all levels and functions
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work on multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills—comfortable with both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn and to dig into data from a variety of angles
  • Familiarity with PowerBI a plus

Compensation and Benefits *

Currently available benefits include:

  • Annual compensation for this position is $48,000-$50,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
